18TH ANNUAL BREYERFEST® CELEBRATION WELCOMES THOUSANDS
FROM AROUND THE WORLD
Stars & Stripes Theme Celebrates American-Bred Horses
(Pequannock, NJ - Aug. 2, 2007) - BreyerFest® Stars and Stripes, held July 20-22, 2007 at the Kentucky Horse Park, attracted more than 6,000 visitors, featured more than 300 equine performers representing more than 25 breeds and welcomed 150 artisans and vendors from around the world for the three day model horse festival and horse fair.
Thousands lined up at the gates to be paraded into the park by a mounted color guard to be ready for the Opening Ceremonies and the opening of the Breyer Store which stocks the limited edition model horses available only at BreyerFest.
BreyerFest's three days of equine entertainment was highlighted by unique shows that rarely travel to the East Coast: Michelle Macfarlane of Scripps Miramar Ranch, San Diego, Calif., and her high-stepping American Saddlebred champions - all homebreds - showed why they are featured on television each year at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif. Wearing a gorgeous Parade costume and with her horses tacked in exquisitely hand-made Edward Bohlin saddles with sterling silver decorations and flowers and ribbons in their manes and tails, Macfarlane's star power shone brightly in Kentucky.
PCRA-nominated for entertainer of the year, Blake Goode of Texas performed his Roman riding & roping routines on the backs of two 2,400-pound Brahma bulls to the delight of the audience, while Big Horse Productions, Las Vegas, Nev., performed difficult acrobatic and vaulting routines on their Belgian draft horses that thrilled the crowds. AQHA Professional's Choice Horsewoman of the Year Lynn Palm of Palm Partnership Training and Rugged Painted Lark, son of two-time AQHA Super Horse Rugged Lark, which was the BreyerFest Celebration Horse, performed a number of bridle-less routines to popular music that had audiences clapping.
And the Nokota Horse Conservancy was on hand with a beautiful demonstration that captured the beauty and talent of this unique strain of horses from the North Dakota badlands that are descended from mustangs and horses stolen from the great Sioux Chief Sitting Bull's herds.
The arena was lined with vendors selling vintage Breyer models and other equine-themed merchandise. Just outside, the Craft Activity Tent, hosted in conjunction with the Explorium of Lexington, offered children the opportunity to experience some of the activities that model horse hobbyists enjoy. Stablemate model painting and the opportunity to watch the development of a Breyer model horse as master sculptor Sue Sifton demonstrated and taught sculpting using a live horse were highly popular with all ages!
A new feature of the Craft Activity Tent was Story Hour and BreyerFest was proud to feature Bonnie Bryant, author of The Saddle Club series, Ellen Feld, author of Blackjack: Dreaming of a Morgan Horse, and Buck Kalinowski, owner of Cupid and Arrow and author of Cupid's Secret, who each read excerpts from their books.
Collectors of all ages learned to sculpt, paint, etch and repair their models in various hands-on workshops. Free seminars were available to anyone who wanted to learn more about collecting and showing their model horses and more. Many attendees also participated in the Open and Youth & Children's Model Horse Shows that featured halter and performance classes of all breeds and disciplines similar to those at real horse shows, as well as other collector classes that were created just for model horses.
Through the annual Live Auction, Silent Auction and two Benefit Raffles, Breyer collectors raised nearly $65,000., a portion of which will be donated to the Morris Animal Foundation, the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA), The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and other local Kentucky charities.
BreyerFest 2008 will be held July 18-20, 2008 at the Kentucky Horse Park and will feature an international theme called Global Gallop. Mark your calendars for this international festival featuring horses of the world. And stay tuned for more information by visiting the Breyer website at www.breyerhorses.com.

AQHA
Encouraging Participation in Dressage
More American Quarter Horses Excel in the Sport
Amarillo,
Texas, May 11, 2004 - In January 2004, the American Quarter Horse
Association announced that it would accept dressage test scores
for American Quarter Horses and current AQHA members competing at
approved U.S. Equestrian/United States Dressage Federation and Canadian
Equestrian Federation shows. Riders may turn in their test scores
and have them recorded by AQHA.
When
the program was implemented, it was set to last for an initial one-year
trial period, after which time the AQHA Show Committee will examine
the figures to see how many horses have participated, how many exhibitors
are AQHA members, and evaluate how the proposed test score table
is transferring over into point values. No points will be awarded
during this time period. However, the amount of participation during
the 2004 trial period will
determine the future of the program.
"AQHA
strongly encourages dressage participants to turn in their test
scores during this initial year," said AQHA Executive Vice
President Bill Brewer. "We are thrilled to have the program
in place and hope the level of participation grows to secure the
recognition dressage competitors and American Quarter Horses deserve."
The
American Quarter Horse is by far the most versatile horse in the
world, proven by its success in many different arenas. From cutting
and reining to racing and ranching and even dressage, American Quarter
Horses thrive in nearly every discipline.
In
fact, American Quarter Horse stallion My Royal Lark claimed the
Grand Champion First Level horse title at the USDF's Southern Comfort
Zada Cup at the Clarcona Equestrian Park in Orlando, Florida.
Amid
a competitive field of Dutch Warmbloods, Hanoverians, Oldenburgs,
Arabians and Westfalens, breeds that have traditionally excelled
at dressage, AQHA Professional Horsewoman Lynn Palm and My Royal
Lark, son of multiple AQHA Superhorse, Rugged Lark, emerged Grand
Champion First Level, also earning the event's highest first level
score, 68.571 percent.
My
Royal Lark and Palm have achieved six USDF tests above 60 percent
and are already qualified for 2004 USDF Regional Competition in
First Level Test 4.
Dressage
is an intense test of athleticism and obedience, and not every horse
is successful. In the past, those talented American Quarter Horses
that could pass the test have received only limited recognition.
AQHA's Best of America's Horse Program recognizes the top performers
competing in non-AQHA Alliance organizations, such as USDF, but
competitors receive no points. AQHA has attempted to address the
issue of formalizing dressage recognition since 1994.
When
a horse and rider team competes in dressage, they perform a specific
pattern depending on their own dressage level. The average time
is different for each test; the shortest pattern is about four minutes,
the longest, nine minutes. It can take a very long time to judge
everyone in a dressage class.
How
AQHA Recognizes Dressage:
*
Exhibitors must have current individual AQHA, U.S. Equestrian and
USDF memberships and comply with membership requirements.
* Exhibitors must meet AQHA eligibility requirements for open, amateur
or youth participation.
* Horses must compete under AQHA registered name and number or licensed
number with USDF.
* Approved events will initially be held at existing U.S. Equestrian/USDF
shows, judged by U.S. Equestrian judges.
* Exhibitors competing at approved U.S. Equestrian/USDF and Canadian
Equestrian approved dressage shows will send score sheets to AQHA
for processing.
* AQHA will use a chart to transfer percentage scores to point values.
Maximum point values will be set for each level to encourage advancement
to higher levels.
* Year-end high-point awards and a recognition program are being
developed.
Stipulations:
* The program will be implemented for a one-year trial period beginning
January 1, 2004, to gauge interest.
* Horses will not accumulate official points during the trial period.
* Horses will not be Incentive Fund eligible at this time.
* Dressage is not a World Show event.

Lynn
Palm, Multi-World and-European Champion Equestrian, Wins Equine
Educator of the Year Award
(Ocala,
FL, January 26, 2004) -- Lynn Palm has been named Equine Educator
of the Year by the American Association for Horsemanship Safety.
Jan Dawson, President of the Association, traveled from Fentress,
TX to Ocala to personally present Lynn with a plaque at a small
reception held at Palm's Fox Grove Farm.
Ms.
Dawson explained that the award is given only when someone exceptional
catches the Association's attention for their contribution to horsemanship
safety. Lynn is the first horse trainer to win the award and the
first recipient who is not either a college classroom professor
or an individual involved in running a major university equine program.
One
of the many and varied functions of The American Association for
Horsemanship Safety is to train and certify riding instructors.
Ms. Dawson said that one of the association's tenets is that, "a
comfortable horse is a safe horse." She said, "No one
has done a better job of bringing to popular attention the fact
that a rider's hands are subordinate to everything else than Lynn.
She did it first on Rugged Lark™ and then with bridleless
demonstrations on other horses, proving that you do not need to,
nor should you, use your hands to control the horse... Many generations
of horses will be happy because of Lynn."
Ms.
Dawson went on to say that Lynn also was chosen for the award because,
"Lynn is extremely safety conscious. And, she is a methodical
rider who does everything by routine... Out of habit she is a chronic
teacher who explains everything she does all of the time. You can't
be around her without learning something!"
Lynn's
priority is rider education. She started her world-renowned training
schools in 1972; and Ms. Dawson remembers that, even back 20 years
or more, she could spot that "Lynn Palm stamp" of having
proper seat on Lynn's students. In 1998, Lynn established Palm
Partnership Training™. She and her husband, French
rider and instructor Cyril Pittion-Rossillon, hold the training
schools at their two facilities -- Fox Grove Farm in Ocala, Fl (October
through May) and Royal Palm Ranch, Ltd. in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
(June through September). For more information, please call 800-503-2824
