Palm Partnership Training Course 1 

This clinic is your introduction to Palm Partnership Training. If you are new to riding or returning to the saddle after many years, this is where your training with us should begin.
This course is designed to gradually ease you into understanding and learning the simple principles of correct horsemanship. We welcome riders of all disciplines and horses of all breeds.

For those who ride 1 to 3 times per week, PPT Course 1 will provide you with simple exercises and techniques to help you grow as a confident and safe rider. The logical and gradual progression implemented for Course 1 will give you the opportunity to advance at your own rhythm.

To prepare for Course 1- although not mandatory - we suggest that you consult the following educational material:

*Hunt seat Equitation – Part 1
*Exercises For Equestrians – Part 1
*Head To Toe Horsemanship


On the ground

* Longevity Training – Parts 1, 2 & 3

Physical fitness is necessary for practicing and enjoying any sport. In Course 1 we offer daily stretching classes. The stretching we practice is peaceful & relaxing.
What will you gain from stretching?

  • Decrease of muscle tension and a sensation of relaxation
  • Development of your coordination by permitting freer and easier movement
  • Preparation of your muscles for physical activity
  • More flexibility & suppleness allowing for a better control of your body
  • Confidence because its feels good

So many riders are seeking a true partnership with their horse. The first step toward building a true partnership starts on the ground .Correct Ground Training is vital to establishing a relationship with your horse based on mutual understanding, respect and trust. In Course 1 you will gain knowledge on:

    • Basics Of Horse Behavior & Natural Instincts
    • Ground Handling Safety
    • In Hand Training: leading, stopping, backing, turning right & left
    • Basics Of Horse Health Care
 

The next step toward building true partnership is to perfect yourself as a rider. The more you improve your rider’s skills the more you will improve your horse’s response and willingness. In Course 1 you will learn:

   Correct Rider’s Position To Achieve Balance What will you gain from balance?

    • feeling safe & confident
    • helping the horse perform easier by not disturbing his own balance
    • improving the horse’s response by communicating with clearer cues

Correct Communication Through Natural Aids What will you gain from using your aids correctly?

    • control of speed and gaits
    • control of direction
    • a happier and more willing horse

At PPT we firmly believe that if you have a solid understanding of the concepts of correct horsemanship in the classroom then it is easier to apply them effectively under saddle.
In Course 1 we offer:

    • Q & A sessions
    • Lectures & Demonstrations
    • Forums on various Equestrian subjects
    • Lecture on Positive Thinking & Building Confidence

In order to graduate from Course 1 you will be expected to perform the following:

              Correct Rider’s Position at the Walk & Trot
              Maintaining Basic Balance at the Canter
              Basic Control Of Speed At All 3 Gaits
              Simple Transitions
              Posting Trot
              Canter Leads
              PPT Training Course 1 / Agility Course 1

To help you prepare for both courses, the instructors suggest that you watch the following material:

If you feel that you are competent in the areas required to graduate from Course 1 and would like to immediately enter Course 2, you may send a DVD of your performing the specified Agility and Training Courses for the instructors to review.  (Copies of courses will be posted soon)

You will receive an assessment of your performance from the instructors within 10 days of receipt of the DVD. At which time, you will be notified as to whether or not you have met the requirements to graduate from Course 1.

Please be kind enough to include your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address as well as name, age and breed of your horse with your DVD.  Keep in mind that the DVDs will not be returned.

*Note-the opportunity to graduate from a Course through DVD performance review does not apply to students who wish to complete the Palm Partnership Training Affiliate Program. Graduating from Partnership Training Courses 1, 2 and 3 is mandatory for the completion of the Affiliate Program.
